Safari Itinerary
Day 1
Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve
Pick-up & Drive to Samburu:
Early morning pick-up from your Nairobi hotel or airport. Begin your journey north to Samburu, passing through the lush agricultural landscapes and dramatic mountain scenery of central Kenya.
Introduction to Samburu: As you travel, your guide will provide an introduction to Samburu National Reserve, known for its semi-arid landscape and unique wildlife, including the “Samburu Special Five”: Grevy’s zebra, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, Beisa oryx, and reticulated giraffe.
Arrival & Lunch:
Arrive at your lodge or tented camp in time for lunch. Settle in and relax before your first game drive.
Afternoon Game Drive:
Embark on your first game drive in Samburu. The unique landscape, marked by acacia trees, rocky hills, and the Ewaso Nyiro River, supports wildlife not found in other parks.
Samburu Highlights: Look out for Samburu’s unique species, such as the reticulated giraffe and the rare Grevy’s zebra. Elephants are plentiful along the riverbanks, and predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards can also be spotted.
Dinner & Overnight:
Return to your lodge/camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2
Day 2: Full Day in Samburu National Reserve
Morning Game Drive:
Set out early for a morning game drive. Early mornings are the best time to spot predators like lions and leopards as they patrol their territories. Samburu’s open landscape makes wildlife viewing more accessible.
Special Wildlife: Besides the Samburu Special Five, you may spot elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and other species that are common in the region, like warthogs and impalas.
Breakfast & Full-Day Game Drive:
Return to your lodge/camp for breakfast, then head out for a full day of exploring Samburu, with a packed lunch. Visit different regions of the reserve, including the Ewaso Nyiro River, a vital lifeline for animals, especially during the dry season.
Lunch in the Wild:
Enjoy a picnic lunch in a scenic location by the river or in the shade of acacia trees.
Afternoon Game Drive:
Continue your exploration of the park, watching for more wildlife activity as the day cools down. Your guide will take you to some of Samburu’s lesser-known spots to increase your chances of spotting rare wildlife.
Optional Cultural Experience:
Visit a Samburu village (optional) to learn about the culture of the Samburu people, their traditional nomadic lifestyle, and how they live in harmony with the wildlife of the region.
Dinner & Overnight:
Return to the lodge/camp for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3
Day 3: Samburu to Nairobi
Morning Game Drive (Optional):
Head out for a final early morning game drive to catch the last sightings of wildlife. Mornings offer great opportunities for predator sightings and viewing the Samburu Special Five one last time.
Breakfast & Check-out:
After breakfast, pack up and check out of your lodge.
Drive Back to Nairobi:
Depart Samburu and drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon.
Drop-off:
You’ll be dropped off at your Nairobi hotel or airport, concluding your Samburu safari.
